You’ve seen the boos. This spring, crowds eagerly let graduation speakers know how students feel about AI, tempting our future robot overlords to wipe out their lineage and mulch their homes. But of course, those crowds are not booing the robots.
They’re booing our current overlords, the data center barons consuming our present and future. These sallow bozos are swallowing everything around us, and for what?
The glorious promise of none of us ever being able to find any satisfying or rewarding work while financing their noise polluting, water-draining, energy-bill-spiking vice with our life’s blood. Yay!
The question you have to ask yourself here is: Which side are you on? Well, if you’re the Democratic Party, you do.
Because we know which side the AI masters of the multiverse have chosen. In March, Trump appointed Zuckerberg, Ellison, Jensen Huang, Marc Andreessen, and Sergey Brin to his Council of Advisors on Science and Technology— co-chaired by White House AI czar David Sacks. The council’s mandate, per executive order: achieving “unquestioned and unchallenged global technological dominance.” Zuckerberg said he was “honored.” Bill Gates, fresh from the pages of the Epstein Files, decided to destroy decades of image fluffing to be who he apparently wants to be now, one of the world’s most divorced men lining up to lick Donald Trump’s feet.
This is Next Comes What by Andrea Pitzer, and episode 73 spent it tracing the line from the original Propaganda Fide — Pope Gregory’s 17th century office for the propagation of the faith — through Edward Bernays, Father Coughlin, Facebook, and the Rohingya, and straight into the AI sales pitch currently consuming all the oxygen on earth. The propaganda they’re pushing, she says, makes bigger and bigger claims for what AI can do now, will be able to do in the future, and what it even is.
Like all propaganda, it depends on fear and relies on lies that cheat people and divide humanity.
